What We Believe

Southside Christian Fellowship is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Scotland, and to the Evangelical Alliance. We do not believe that the Christian faith can be easily summed up in a few statements – it is too rich and vibrant to be contained that way.
A brief list of some key points is contained in our constitution:

We believe:

The Holy Scriptures, as originally given, were inspired by God. They are sufficient and without error and are the supreme authority as the only rule of faith and practice.

There is one God – three persons, Father Son and Holy Spirit, who are the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

The perfect deity, virgin birth and sinless humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ; His death on the cross as the only perfect and effective sacrifice for sin; His subsequent burial, resurrection and ascension into heaven as the only true mediator between God and man; His personal return with and for those who have faith in Him.

The personality and deity of God, the Holy Spirit, who brings spiritual rebirth, lives in and empowers those who trust in Christ, making God’s truth clear and enabling them to live a life that pleases God.

Sinfulness, and all sins committed, are forgiven solely by God’s grace when a person acknowledges these faults and turns to Him in repentance, trusting in Christ’s death on his or her behalf.

God also gives eternal life to all who turn to Him in repentance and put their faith in Jesus Christ. In the continuation of life after death through the resurrection of the body, the judgement of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, either to eternal life in heaven or eternal separation from God.

God calls all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to unite together as a family in a local church, to support each other in love and to maintain in themselves and in the church a standard of life and doctrine that is in conformity with the teaching of God’s Holy Word.
